Did you know that the United States bought the US Virgin Islands from Denmark in 1917 for $25 million? Under that agreement (called the Treaty of Danish West Indies), the US is required to recognize Greenland as Danish territory.
Just a random fact with no correlation to recent events.

In 1916, Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to the USA, with the colony becoming the US Virgin Islands.
The USA was worried Germany could take control of the islands, though they had no plans to do so.
In exchange, the USA acknowledged Denmark's complete sovereignty over Greenland.
