We’re facing ecological and climatological collapse on a planetary scale. The solution requires revolutionary cooperation the likes of which humanity has never attempted. Capitalism is wholly inadequate to this task.
The fact that I can click on a scientific article link and hit a paywall in 2025–when the scientists were paid with public money, the research conducted in public institutions, and the cost of publication subsidized by public funds–is an abject failure of society.
Fellow comrades in #academia - there’s a very cool project launching called Science Homecoming, that allows you to find local papers from your hometown and encourages you to pitch them an opinion piece about the current attacks on #science and #highered.
I pitched a piece to my hometown paper and they got back to me in about 10 minutes saying they definitely wanted to see it. So think this is a simple thing to do with high impact potential
I'm a firm believer that addressing #ClimateChange and #biodiversity loss will require structural changes over individual ones, but there are two things that individuals can do that I think have the potential to transform society:
Graduate workers at #PennState announced their union drive today. They put in a tremendous amount of work to get to this point. There’s a buzz in the air, and I think there’s going to be a lot of energy for organizing. ✊
