New discovery: Around forty amphorae dating 1st century BC/1 century AD were discovered in their original cargo placement within the marine region of the Vendicari Natural Park, Sicily
New discovery: Archaeologists uncovered a fully preserved statue from ancient Odessos (Bulgaria), a marble statue from the #Roman era, slightly taller than a human height.
A well-preserved #Neolithic knife, the blade was made of flint and fastened with birch tar in a wooden handle.
From the pile dwelling settlement at Wangen-Hinterhorn, Lake Constance, dating 3800-3500 BC.

A cosmetic container in the shape of a #duck. The wings of the container pivot outward, revealing a storage compartment. Dating 1550-1196 BC.
Ducks were a popular decorative motif in ancient #Egypt.
Made from hippopotamus ivory, elephant ivory, and bone.

The Hove Amber Cup was made from a single piece of Baltic #amber some 3,500 years ago. It was found in a #BronzeAge burial mound in Hove, Sussex.

A #Roman leather #brief/#bikini bottom with a cut-out design, tied on each side of the hips with leather laces. Made of goat leather, from Trier, dating 2nd c. AD. So far, seven differently cut leather briefs are known. It's unclear whether they were used as underwear or whether they were worn by acrobats. A terracotta figurine from #Egypt shows briefs very similar to the one from Trier, the cut-out design is clearly visible.

Fascinating world of ancient #glass: This magnificent #Roman #fish-shaped flask was found during the excavation of a storeroom in Begram/Afghanistan. It was probably made in a workshop at Alexandria/Egypt, dating 1st/2nd century AD. Begram was a major trading city at the silk road, the flask was found in one of two storerooms of a merchant, filled with luxury good.

Amazing! Colourful mosaics have been discovered underwater near Baiae.
A #Neolithic arrowhead made of rock crystal, found in the pile dwelling settlement in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, dating around 3500 BC. The raw material was not available in the region, it came from the Alps.

Happy #Solstice! The Nebra Sky Disc is considered to be the oldest known material representation of cosmic phenomena in the world, dating around 1600 BC. On display at Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte in Halle.
