the story about the use of "AI" by movie studios is about Labor. it's a story about greedy studio execs. but it's so easy to get distracted with the shiny thing and start talking about the super-intelligence scenarios. shut the fuck up. it's a boring normal labor problem. it's LABOR.
you don't have to do anything to "deserve" joy, safety and care. no sacrifice, no work, no effort, no compliance, no good deeds. that rule is fake. fakety fake.
imagine if one of these guys were to say in an interview "well we're still figuring out a cloud architecture (or microservices, or whatever idk accounting, legal), it's early days, no one knows anything". it would be obvious they are not qualified to run the business they're trying to run.
every marginalized person on the Internet has to suffer through a new cis white dude every couple of years who needs to learn all this shit all over again, as if it was entirely new.
what i found most annoying about this guy's non-answer is that this is not early days, we're not "just figuring things out". there's a couple of decades of work of content moderation by now, and you should have an opinion beyond "freedom of speech" nonsense. if you don't, you have no business hosting people's content online https://www.tiktok.com/@decoderpod/video/7221602731998498094?_r=1&_t=8bT9ADdgXPS
i opened a little door in an alleyway and it turned out to be a coffee shop with great cheesecake and floor to ceiling bookcases. even the bathroom door is a bookcase.
anyway this has made me realize i’ve spent an offensive amount of time in every other city (including the one i was born in) trying to deduct these things from pure ether. wondering if i’m standing in the right place, because you’re supposed to know everything somehow, no instructions provided.
sure i understand that wherever you’re from people are not wearing masks anymore. fine. but if you see every single japanese person including tiny children wearing a mask on the train, why wouldn’t you?!? WHY?
there are many things i find relaxing about this city and one of them is there are EXPLICIT behavioral instructions everywhere. stand here, wait here, go up this way, wear a mask here, be quiet in this space, return your tray here, elders have priority here, etc. THANK YOU OMG
