i angered a guy in here the other day by mentioning the genocide in Sudan in the context of genocide in Gaza, because apparently only some genocides are ok to call out (presumably when they’re committed by people who don’t look like you) https://social.circl.lu/@quinn/111598587699465291
US friends: I have 6 meetings a day next week but maybe I can squeeze in a last one before Friday 22nd at 6pm? LatAm friends: we're already drunk, we'll check email again on Jan the 8th at the earliest
perfect san francisco afternoon: got a little too high on half a gummy and then had to listen to two girls proselytizing door to door for “god the mother”
you can support incredibly important work, like just the other day I helped spam hundreds of police sheriffs to tell them they were doing illegal things in very polite lawyerly terms. we also have a lot of websites to maintain and hoodies to design!
i can’t stop laughing because in local crime news a bank employee stole over $6 million taking the cash little by little from the vault, and got caught because he was spending $3k a day on lottery tickets
@evan I'm glad it does, but for many of us (so many!) people staying is not an option. they are forced to establish other homes, other cultures, other places. it's not that they don't care about the land, it's that we have a right to be human anywhere.
@evan but familial and cultural connections are not the same as some kind of entitlement. I live in California 20 yrs ago. do people whose family have lived in California for 200 years have more right to be there than I do? We agree there's a difference between aggression and migration, no contest from me, but after hundreds of years, how do we split that?
@evan yes. this is political and economic terror. but I'm not convinced there's an intrinsic (let alone religious) claim to the land by anyone. there's a more valid argument that says "people have a right to security, shelter, conditions that allow them to thrive" wherever they happen to be.
idk man, the "settlers are the problem" sloganeering gets vertiginously close to "immigrants go back to where you came from". after a certain point, where are you going to send people back to?
autista antifascista🪴🏴 daytime at @eff. i like computers. please stop explaining the capitalism to me. i know more about the international system of human rights than i ever wanted to know. de noche se escriben locuritas.
