Many women of color contributed greatly to Hawaii's success. Emma Na'ea Rooke founded the world's first Universal Healthcare system in Hawaii, raising money on foot. She also helped build academies and a nursing school to staff the hospital.

The Hawaiian system of worker cooperatives also known as hui challenged the white capitalist system and allowed for common moderate prosperity of all people. Many Chinese specifically married into Hawaiian families hence names like Akana, Akau. Black families such as that of Anthony D. Allen 'Alani’, also succeeded and helped build hospitals, schools, and Hawaii's first bowling alley.

Betsey Stockton, born into US slavery, was in possession of the President of Princeton. She was another of many women of color who helped build schools in Hawaii. Hawaii became the most literate country in the world (98%) when Europeans and the US only educated the elites.
