texts that I'm reading at the moment, there's a piece on 'male chauvinism.'
Author talks about masc #gay subcultures, using leathermen (and bars) as an example in the US. Then remarks- apropos of nothing- that at the same time, (70s) #Japan had masc gay bars where men dressed up in "full 17th-18th century samurai dress".
Anyone heard of this? Was this an actual thing? An orientalist invention? An odd take on Mishima?
