google is discontinuing support for first-generation nest thermostats.
it is time for lawmakers to implement a »support-or-open-source« regulation. it is ok to not want to support »obsolete« technologies forever, but it should be mandatory to make it open source when and if you stop the support.

at this point, saying that »AI just isn't there yet« and »this is just the start« and »the best is still to come« is basically magical wishful thinking. the reality is here, we had no say in it, and all we can hope is that people figure it out at a higher rate than people falling for it.
if i had a switch to turn off all genAI, i would. honestly.
