Russian concert pianist and anti-war activist Pavel #Kushnir died in police custody after going on hunger strike, his mother confirmed Monday.
Kushnir died at age 39 in a pre-trial detention center in the Jewish autonomous district, a remote region of #Russia’s Far East.

Chess governing body #FIDE's general assembly agreed to consider lifting parts of a ban on Russian and Belarusian players, in a vote on Sunday in #Budapest.
In the end, delegates from 66 countries supported a last-minute proposal by the FIDE Council to consult the International Olympic Committee (#IOC) about letting some players and teams from #Russia and #Belarus, such as those with disabilities or children aged under 12, return to international events.

The European Parliament passed a resolution on Sept. 19 calling for #EU member states to lift restrictions on #Ukraine's use of Western-supplied weapons inside #Russia, and accelerate weapons deliveries, "including #Taurus missiles."
"Without lifting current restrictions, Ukraine cannot fully exercise its right to self-defense and remains exposed to attacks on its population and infrastructure," the European Parliament's resolution said.
