@inthehands ok sooo it’s not a plant. My guess (the combined guesses of one other mosstodonistani and also the single best plant expert in my network) is that it is NOT A MOSS but a Cyanobacteria colony called a nostoc. I’m on the floor!

My partner found these amazing bubble formation… bryophytes (?) among other mosses along the Cosumnes River today and we are both stumped about what is actually happening. Is this its own variety or a developmental stage? This is the moss under microscope but looked like a regular moss at glance!
