@chris still up in the air. I’m surprised at the lack of good options for a non-designer/developer watching him try and make what he wants. Suggestions welcome!

Phil Johnston (johnstonphilip@mstdn.social)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 00:59:41 JST Phil Johnston My dad (a non-designer) wants to build a simple 1 page landing page website, and he’s tried gutenberg, elementor, bootstrap studio, Canva, and more. All of them end up being painful in different ways. All of these are WYSIWYG. They all also are creating terrible non-accessible html, and large page sizes. He especially gets blocked when trying to make it look good on both mobile and desktop.

I don’t know much about it on desktop. What’s a good setup, especially for a Mac user? What machine? What flavor? Linux Mint?

This is based on the low and declining install counts for Block Themes from WP.org. Whenever someone says “Block Themes are the future of WordPress”, it makes you feel like you should be focusing resources there. But based on the evidence so far, that’s not true. If the trends remain as they have been for 2 years, how much wasted time will have been spent by WP business to build for a future that will never be?
