I’ve seen a lot of misinformation online saying that none of your #Apple will be encrypted and your passwords will be out there in plain text. That is NOT what is happening. ADP is an extra layer of security above Apple’s standard encryption where you and only you control the encryption key. This is what Apple is removing from the UK market. The standard encryption will remain in place.

It just means that should Apple receive a subpoena from law enforcement they are able to comply which they cannot do when ADP is enabled.

I hate the #Labour party for the mess and confusion their demand has made and I hate the #Tories for passing the law in the first place. Neither are worthy of my support ever again.

Well that's unfortunate. #Bluesky partnering with an #AI company for #Moderation. This will go about as well as Youtube's shitty ContentID system. Automated moderation does not work.

I find it funny a hell that the top free app on the US #AppStore is a Chinese #TikTok clone called #RedNote. You can block TikTok but you still can't force people to use Instagram. Zuckerberg must be livid with all the millions he spent to get TikTok banned.

That may be true, but a great many people have asked for smarter features in applications and companies think so called "AI" is the best way to achieve it. Its not, because what is called AI is just repackaged algorithms that we have known about for years and that haven't improved in that time one bit; but you did ask for this, even if indirectly.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I like the way #AppleTVPlus uses the episode a week model for new shows. It's a throwback to the old TV days where we could spend the time between episodes building community around the shows talking and speculating about what may be to come.

You lose that when all episodes are dumped out at once and you binge them.

New #ElementaryOS coming today. I like Elementary and what they do for inclusivity and their App Centre ethos. It also looks pretty. Also, it is one of the #Linux operating systems that has an actually well designed website.

#Gaming hot take: #Nintendo are the smartest of the big three console makers. They opted out of the hardware arms race years ago choosing instead to focus on unique stories, gameplay and/or experiences rather than chasing ever more realistic graphics at higher and higher resolutions. As a result they have been able to develop more games per hardware cycle than #Playstation or #Xbox while keeping development costs down, all while selling the #Switch at a profit year on year.

Its not like the quality of games has suffered either as they have put out some of the most highly reviewed games in the past 7 years, and several of their games remain stubbornly at the top of sales charts even today years after release.

They have done this all without spending billions on studio or publisher acquisitions, leaning on studio relationships built up over the years and decades. They aren't a perfect company but there is a lot to admire in how they do business.

People really need to stop talking about #Nintendo hardware in terms of power and performance. That has never been a priority for Nintendo and beyond the normal generational boost, it won't be their priority with the #Switch follow up either. If you're expecting a performance powerhouse you're setting yourself up for disappointment. #VideoGames

I think of my #AppleWatch as an iPhone accessory. Just like how my Apple Pencil is an ipad accessory. Just like how my PS Portal is a PS5 accessory. Just like how the Steam Dock is a Steam Deck accessory. I don't see anything monopolistic in that. None of those accessories really pretend to or are built to be anything else. #Apple

Not in a litigious way of course but in a way of focusing more on the fun factor of their games than on technology. A Switch follow up on par with the #SteamDeck is more interesting to me than a #PS5Pro because Nintendo puts most of their energy into just creating fun and engaging games

We get so much talk of “video game preservation”, this is far more important. We could one day lose vital scientific research. Losing video games would be a bit sad but we’d survive, losing scientific research would be devastating and it would take decades to recover, if we ever do. #Science #Publishing #Preservation
