I’ve made a ton of progress in the big revamp of my personal blog that I’ve been working on, but I’ve still only gotten the last 8 years of archives tagged and cleaned up. So, uhhhh… 15 years to go. Which sucks, because I’m so pleased with what’s done so far that I sort of wish I could just put that up. I mean, maybe I could? Nobody is looking anyway.
The earliest major inflection point in Twitter's adoption was when @aplusk raced CNN to a million followers, and Oprah created her account. As of this week, the fediverse has 33% more active users than Twitter did at that point; Mastodon alone is larger. https://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/04/17/ashton.cnn.twitter.battle/index.html
I know a good number of Masto admins and moderators follow me here, as we get Fastly’s Fast Forward program up & running (designed to support open source & the good internet), what would you ideally like to see as support for the fediverse from Fastly? CDN services, the edge compute platform, security protection, etc.? https://www.fastly.com/fast-forward
a reminder: just as you don’t have to amplify facsists or give them your time, energy and attention on Twitter, you sure as fuck don’t have to bring it over here.
I’m meeting lots of new folks being over on Mastodon (Twitter was so noisy for me that I often missed interactions with people I’m sure I would have liked to talk to. So! Let me do an AMA for a little while. Ask me anything! I’ll answer if I can. #AMA
It’s funny, many of the “what you need to know about Mastodon” or “how to learn about the fediverse” pieces are focused on the technology and the implementation, when the hardest thing for people to understand about this context, if they’re used to traditional social media & tech, is that here we have an expectation of _consent_. Consent if you want to be included in a conversation, consent about being amplified, consent in the form of CWs on topics that you want to manage, etc. That’s it! ?
