One of the biggest threats we face to democracy is disinformation.
Our friend's at @MediaRevolution have pulled together Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat, and Carole Cadwalladr, an investigative journalist working on Big Tech, to a focused panel at the RSA.
If you're in London next week, we'd highly recommend checking it out and meeting these brilliant people face to face.
"In Europe and worldwide, people are recognising that news publishers, progressive content creators, non-profits and civic society rely on platforms that don’t share our values. Platforms which optimise algorithms for surveillance, outrage and profit."

We are committed to growing the Open Social Web. For us, that starts by working to overcome barriers of entry in the network and highlighting the things done well.
On March 2nd, @fediforum are hosting an event dedicated to Growing the OSW. It's a chance to talk about all the issues as well as the long list of things the Social Web is doing well.
LGBTQ+ people have contributed more than we'll ever be able to discover to our history.
In February, here in the UK, we celebrate LGBTQ+ history month. It's a chance to learn more about the LGBTQ+ people who have shaped our society up until this point.
As the political climate grows less accepting of diversity, it's more important than ever that we share these stories. If you have a story of LGBTQ+ history to share, please do so in the comments 👇 🧡
We've put Channel.org Channels back behind an invite code 🧷
To prevent misuse of our Channel.org beta, we're going back to a controlled system which ensures we can help Channel builders get the most out of their custom feeds.
If you want to build your own Channel, please reach out to us at support@newsmast.org
However, we must acknowledge that a year ago today, the US saw a shift in power which has (unfortunately) rippled across the globe.
A year on, we think it's fair to say that, whilst we are still horrified by the decisions, language, and actions of the US administration (and beyond), the initial hopelessness is beginning to dissipate.
We're fighting back, finding new ways to come together, and staying strong.
We certainly understand the importance of having your own app and the Forkiverse should 100% have one 👀
@Fgottesman perhaps we should talk? Our Foundation is producing white-label apps for instances just like the Forkiverse. We'd love to pick your brains and offer this to the Forkiverse team.
For too long, communities have been controlled by the platforms they're on. Finally, there are meaningful solutions.
We're helping organisations and communities set up their own technology stack, helping them own their digital community and put bespoke tools in the hands of their people.
Towards the end of 2025, we saw realisation across Europe and beyond of the danger of reliance on US technologies.
In 2026 we want to ensure this momentum grows, with communities, publishers, and even governments turning their back on US social technologies.
This isn't just the technology which already exists and has proven untrustworthy, but also new and emerging US technologies which are still under the thumb of the US government.
