Are word mutes case sensitive on #sharkey? Because they sure are behaving like they are. I have 'eurovision' as one of my mutes, and that works, but something with Eurovision doesn't get caught. >.< It's really frustrating because my instance admin limits how many keywords I can have, so if I have to input a mute word twice and still have stuff possibly slip through anyway if someone does something weird with capitalization....
Every time I find someone who hasn't listened to Leonard Nimoy's reading of Ray Bradbury's There Will Come Soft Rains, I get so excited to be able to share it with someone new. On the off chance any of you following me haven't heard it, please take the aprox. 15 minutes to listen.
Okay, WTF. I had threads.net instance muted because I haven't been able to convince my instance admin that we should hard block them (and I really don't want to move instances again), and yet, for some fucking reason, I am seeing fucking Zuck's post in my timeline because someone else's reply to it got boosted into my timeline.
I love #Sharkey, but since we migrated from Firefish to Sharkey here on I Be Social, I swear my mutes (be it word or instance) don't seem to be working correctly. This is really frustrating.
@FractalEcho@kolektiva.social I had already hated Grammarly with a passion before LLM became The Latest Techbro Hawtness™. At first it was just me bristling at how it was smoothing away everyone's voice in their writing, but then I read a thread on twitter where someone pointed out how it was literally Whitewashing language, and it left me livid, especially since it helped me explain why I hated it so much.
This is more of the same, and I fucking hate it. Thank you for speaking up about it.
@Paulos_the_fog@qoto.org Anyone who can look at a country where one party's front runner is literally on trial for treason, and was instrumental in trying to overthrow an election, where we're literally the only major country in the world that does not provide at least a minimal baseline of healthcare to everyone, and where most people can not afford to support themselves from one job, and not call it a shithole, I have to wonder if they're in some crazy levels of denial or if they're imbibing in some substance that's making them accept the fucked up situation.
And that's literally just skimming the worst of the worst off the top. We can dig into the crumbling infrastructure, the broken school systems (both primary being more of a glorified babysitter, and the higher education being entirely locked behind a paywall), the abhorrent way we treat people who aren't cishet white neurotypical rich men (and the further away from that you are, the worse your treatment is, with things getting really exciting depending on what overlaps of "undesirable" traits you have), the fact that our election system has been rules lawyered into nearly unusable, and our politicians literally don't listen to the people because we don't have a way to actually hold them accountable because one party is milktoast spineless moderates, and the other is steadily jackboot marching further and further into fascism, so replacing one of them is nearly an impossible task unless they piss off their party or someone rich.
I didn't do an #introduction post when I moved to ibe.social, but since I shoot my mouth off on hot button issues enough, it might be a good idea to TL;DR myself and pin it, in case the reply guys actually bother to look at my profile before attempting to 'Um, Actually...' me.
Hi! I'm Amy, I am #ADHD. I'm wildly left wing — at least by US standards, maybe even by international standards, but def in the left wing weeds here in the shithole that I call my home country. I am opinionated, I will share my thoughts.
My interests include scifi such as #StarTrek (which is political, and progressive despite the efforts of certain assholes like Rick Berman), #Farscape, and #DoctorWho. I run a Star Trek collaborative writing RPG, @USSJoshuaNorton@trekkies.social. I dabble in photography and making glitch art, and if I can figure out how to manage my ADHD better, I'd love to make at least part of my income from selling my art. Check out my INPRNT shop from the link on my profile.
My spelling is atrocious, and due to my ADHD, my memory is sometimes a crap shoot. This means playing games like splitting hairs over my vocabulary choices, or nitpicking my spelling and grammar, are not going to go over well with me. These are things I've been fighting with my whole life, so if you come at me for them I will not hesitate to defend myself and tell you to fuck off. Just because my memory resembles swiss cheese sometimes doesn't mean I'm stupid, it just means that sometimes I can't pull up the noun for a concept I'm trying to explain, or I can't cite sources on sometimes I read six months ago that supports my position... but I assure you, if I feel confident enough to say something without padding it with a modifier like 'I think', or 'if I'm remembering correctly', I'm pretty certain of what I'm saying and I don't recommend coming for me unless you can cite sources to me.
I try my best to meet people where they are, but I've also been put through enough bullshit because of how ADHDers and women are treated in our society that once I decide you're not trying to meet me in good faith, my patience will drop to zero pretty damn fast. Meet me with good intentions and usually we'll get along fine.
Okay, I'm gonna rant a moment here because I am really utterly bewildered by the choices I see in a lot of website construction.
Why is everyone hard coding font sizes on websites? Like, while I'm irked by the choice to set font size in pixels, if they only set the starting font size in pixels and everything else was something that was relative to OG size, it would be fine.
Like, set your body font size to 12px for all I care. (You must have eyes like an eagle for this to be a functional font size, but what the fuck ever.) But if you're also setting your headings, your various secondary texts, etc etc in pixels instead of relative that size, suddenly if someone needs to scale your page for legibility because you're working with fonts designed for ants, they have to over ride a bajillion different classes and shit, or they have to use the browser zoom which is a crap shoot on quickly that'll break because you also set your containers and columns and shit in pixels too, right? But you don't care, because you just want to lay this shit out like it's a fucking static print page, don't you?
Look, I worked in print. I miss parts of it, other parts I don't, but let me tell you one fucking huge thing I do not miss with print: it is static. Sometimes that's fine. Sometimes that's good enough. But there are plenty of reasons why dynamic is winning out over print these days. Being able to update your docs if your product changes is helpful, being able to make your page accessible with large type by changing one fucking value in your stylesheet is amazing. But when you set your font sizes at every level of your fucking page, and don't design so that shit adjusts when the font scales, your shit breaks if anyone wants to read it and they can't read font sizes made for ants.
Why the fuck are people doing this shit? Why the hell is it normal and fucking default for people to set fonts like this? It should be best fucking standard practice for you to set your font size once and scale it for every other fucking part of the page.
Please, can anyone explain this to me, other than maybe it's just that the print designers who lost their jobs trying to transfer their outdated education directly to web design being the teachers of the latest generation of web designers?
Question re: migration to Sharkey. So, it turns out that Firefish doesn't appear to work with Guppe groups, but Sharkey does (my follow request is still pending here, went immediately on our sharkey test instance). I'm in the process of trying to set up a group for some friends across multiple instances from my Trek RP mastodon account, and one of them is part of our hive here.
Not in any way rushing you to get the migration done, just looking for some information to I can make informed choices on stopgap while waiting for the migration to happen so we're not leaving the person on this instance out of things... do you know when the next attempt to migrate is going to be? Totally okay if you don't.
@deadsuperhero@mozilla.social I'm still waiting on my admin to migrate us to Sharkey. She'd made it sound like it was going to be an easy move, so I'm not sure what's up. I'm sure she's doing her best, and last I heard the Sharkey team were going to help?
My other account is a masto account, so I'm still used to that interface, but I def prefer the features here as opposed to there. Not to mention the masto instance I'm on didn't change the character limit for toots, so I often feel a little cramped. That instance's admin said he can't change it while we're still on a shared hosting set up, but he'll look at changing that if/when we migrate our hosting? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@MicroSFF@mastodon.art This is posting to mastodon. Are you only posting to mastodon as a cross post from Twitter, or will we continue to see posts here?
