@alfredo I think we’ve been in a constant state of flux between the convenience of the packaged experience and the control and learning opportunity of something a bit more hands on. Linux , minix and BSD offered us a way out of the proprietary OS trap, but smartphones, tablets and the cloud have robbed beginners of the easy path to understanding. Of course you can run K8s at home, but it’s not natural or obvious to do so.
