@marcan I never contributed changes and fixes I made to internal Kernels for this reason.
I'm currently in progress of making a (fairly small) addition to an existing driver. The only thing on my mind was "how do I reduce the chance of upstream objecting to this" and not what the best architectural approach would be.
I would make much more changes to make the code more maintainable and easier to read but that would likely conflict with previous maintainer sentiment for this specific driver.
