@LunaFoxgirlVT yup i know! this is a little bit the problem i mean to describe. if there are 12 cool forks of mastodon, each separately with a cool feature you want, now you as a platform provider have to decide which one you want most, rather than being able to pick and choose features via plugin or config :(

@LunaFoxgirlVT hmm, that's a shame but also matches the (limited) vibecheck i've gotten from them so far. honestly i rarely contribute to foss because github project maintainers are always so possessive and holier-than-thou..

i guess a fork would be the only option in that case, meh :/ instead of making one unified awesome solution we gotta have fragmentation hell

@LunaFoxgirlVT do you think upstream might be more receptive to a general plugin system for instances? that way something like an algorithm timeline feature/plugin could be made and popularized kind of on the side so the core crowd doesn't start drama (they would anyway), but it'd be nice for those who would wanna use it and not want to worry about breaking their instance due to patch updates

@lina aaaa this is something i've gotta think about more often. retweeting on twitter always felt like being spammy so i always preferred to silently support through likes. different culture in a different environment, guess i gotta recognize that its not me being spammy if i share what i like
