When you give a shit about democracy and pluralism, you say "Let's have that conversation. Lots of different perspectives to sort through."

It's hugely significant that a president who rails against the left for their hijacking of history also is a habitual destroyer of presidential records and documents.

It points, first of all, to his criminality and his consciousness of guilt, but it also underscores how full of shit he is with respect to his own patriotic history project.

He doesn't care a fig for history, except as a tool for emotionally manipulating his base.
