For those who don't know what felting is, it is sculpting with wool. Any wool will do: sheep, alpaca, goat, even hair from your dog, if properly prepared. The wool is compacted upon itself using small, sharp barbed needles and eventually solidifies into the shape of your choosing. It can be used to make lifelike animals or whimsical creatures and scenes that don't require turning neighborhoods into deserts or blowing up the power grid. #felting #fiber #art

Today I found a large set of felting items for $5.59: fifty small pieces of roving in a variety of colours, dozens of needles in four different sizes, a felting pad, many felting molds and two storage cases to hold it all. A good score for me but I wish I could find the person who gave it away and give them felting lessons so they didn't get discouraged and kept going with it.

For $2.44 I bought this complete kit at the thrift store for the roving and needles but these snowmen are so adorable I'm tempted to just make the kit as intended. #felting #wool #roving

Today I saw someone toot, in dismay, people are posting their everyday life to Mastodon when they could simply buy a diary for $1.99. I can't stop thinking about this.

If you know me at all, you know I dislike waste. My mother taught me to collect the soap slivers that remain after using a bar. I collect them in a can. When the can is full, I grate them in into a small pot, add a little water and boil them until they form a thick liquid. Then I mold them and wait for them to solidify. Once solid, I unmold them and leave them to dry. #recycle #reuse
