Living in fear vs having the tools:

ER Doc reflects after CDC removes 5 day isolation guidance:
- "Covid is no longer so different from the seasonal flu and a host of other respiratory viruses, an inconvenience for most of us but a dangerous and potentially mortal threat for some."
- "We have the knowledge and simple tools needed to protect each other."

She doesn't name the tools, other than wearing a mask when sick.

I love backcountry camping. But that means taking precautions like:

- Wearing long pants
- Wearing sunblock & sun hat
- Purifying my water
- Never storing food in my tent.

When people talk about not living in fear from Covid, I imagine them frolicking naked in the woods, gulping beaver water, and storing bacon in their tents.

At one point does not living in fear become actively chasing sickness?

What is the acceptable way to beg for one’s life? For freedom of movement? For freedom of speech? For freedom of assembly? For water?

What is the magic phrase that will unlock all these things, if only it is spoken with just the right words, in just the right tone of voice?

@MadameXimon Or we could design cities such that people aren’t required to purchase a car for daily necessities. Mandatory car ownership is a helluva tax on poor people. Not all places are built that way. And car ownership rates are much lower for low income and disabled people than for affluent able bodied adults.

“I use a wheelchair and I want more bike lanes”:

1. Many disabled people use bikes.
2. Many of us consider our electric bikes, scooters and trikes to be mobility devices.
3. Lots of people cannot drive
4. More people using cycleways means fewer cars on the road, which makes it easier for disabled and chronically ill people who use cars
