They're also dangerous to drive in front of at night, because the headlights are so high up they instantly blind you through your side and rear view mirrors.
Basically, these put everyone but the driver at risk wherever they go. -

NHTSA vehicle saftey ratings are based on how well an adult male driver survives when slamming into a concrete wall / steel wedge. More recently they added female crash test dummies. Cyclists or pedestrians? They can detonate on impact for all the NHTSA cares. The car can still get a 5-star rating.
