Try this: Whenever anybody initiates small-talk about the unusual and extreme weather, respond with a casual mention of the need to get off of fossil fuels. So, for example:
Person: Wow, this weather sure is weird, eh?
You: Seriously. We really need to stop burning fossil fuels ASAP or it's just going to keep on getting worse, right?
