I gotta ask : why is Warhammer 40K lore the way it is ?

Recently a lot of Shorts (presumably of an animated series of some kind) have entered my Youtube feed, and it's like, nonstop body horror sh*t. Torture devices upon torture devices upon torture devices.

The cruelty of it all is baffling because, when I see videos of people PLAYING with the minis... it's just regular combat stuff ?! Even the minis are fairly tame, visually (...comparatively).
The lore does not need to go that hard ! WHY ?

@Gargron @Mastodon : I never set things to quiet voluntarily however. So if it's inherited, it's because Mastodon has chosen that for me. It's happened many, many times in long threads that I have the reset to public manually because "quiet" is forced.

@Gargron @Mastodon : thanks for your reply but I have already set to public by default as you can see, yet I still regularly get toots that are automatically set as quiet when I add a post to an existing thread. And when I type a hashtag, then do I get the warning about my toot being quiet, so I have to manually change it to public. The hassle hasn't disappeared.

@Mastodon : can we set our preferred default for visibility, quotes, etc., so that we don't have to go through all these every time we post something ? For instance I never want to post a reply to myself (aka a thread) that's quiet ; Mastodon keeps forcing some toots to be quiet only to tell me "careful now, you added a hashtag but this is a quiet post so it won't be seen !".
Then why did I opt in the search ? Why did I put a hashtag ? Clearly I want my post discoverable. Let me make it default.

*we're definitely not gonna keep that name, but the definitive one is still TBD, though I have narrowed down the list lately.

She's described as the sweetest and cuddliest of her litter... and her sister is called Câline, so that gives you an idea of the sugarcube I'm about to live with :)

Sometimes I look at her photos and I'm like : "she's going to be my kitten. My kitten that I have. Mine".

...And I um, absolutely don't cry. Dunno why you'd think that.

I don't know that I'd call them tricks, exactly : everything I taught Tomcat was less like party tricks, and more to make our life together easier. Friction-free. Meal routine rather than his wild chaos at meal time, post-meal routine to stop his post-meal zoomies, shower routine instead of water panic, medication routine so that I wouldn't have to fight him three times a day "for his own good"...
And that's why I might not need the same ones with Lucia (medication ? definitely a good idea tho).

Yesterday my friend said that he predicts I'm going to teach Lucia tricks "in no time", because of things like this.

While I dispute the "in no time" part (teaching a cat takes repetition, hence time... and Tomcat, who I suspect was a bit smarter than average, didn't have crazy kitten energy by the time I needed to start implementing a medication routine), I do look forward to teaching her things. We'll see if she's the kind of cat who's interested in learning...

After 3 and a half years of cat-less loneliness and depression, I'm finally going to be able to adopt a kitten, Lucia*. You could be part of making it happen.

Plus nothing tells me she'll have the same intelligence. For instance, Trixie certainly didn't have this ; everything she learned to do, she figured out on her own and started doing spontaneously ; I only picked up on it and implemented verbal commands to further the idea.

It's actually going to be a big part of the fun of having Lucia next month : figuring out who she is, what she learns and how, and what she needs to learn.
I can't wait to meet her and figure her out :)
