Primary objective of Australian govt appears to be getting everyone verified to use popular aspects of the web, with 'protecting children' as a secondary objective and stalking horse. To identify everyone online.

(That only works with a renewed push to ban or restrict VPNs - yes, laughable, they're an important backbone of much online infrastructure but that didn't limit past attempts - so expect those to come under fire eventually.)

What's missing is explaining the wholistic and overarching policy, instead of this piecemeal rollout, which given the objective is clearly the last thing the government wants to do.
