The Holy Spirit stopped me this morning when I read this text in Acts 8: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+8%3A26-35&version=NCB
That story has always fascinated me. I mean, this guy was one of the WAITERS mentioned in chapter 6 of Acts. Phillip was not one of the church leaders. He was simply a blue-collar guy, just like his fellow waiter, Stephen, of chapter seven.
Just pay attention to how much Scripture these WAITERS knew.
I keep repeating their employment status to make a serious point: Don’t let anyone tell you that only the clergy can tell others about Christ. That is sheer puffed-up arrogance and flies in the face of what God tells us. No, all that’s required to tell others about Christ is a love for Jesus and a love to rescue souls for God's kingdom.
Yes, of course, a working knowledge of Scripture is certainly helpful. And what if we don’t yet have a working knowledge of God's word? So, get one. But that requires reading His word consistently, prayerfully, and obediently – year after year after year.
Do we want to be fruitful for Christ? If not, why not? And if yes, then we know what we need to do.
Now, let’s do it.
