I have all the cards now from the #AdventCalendar and I also finally have the guide book for the deck 😄 This has been so much fun. Here is a capybara. Merry Christmas!
FB just asked me if I want AI to answer questions in my group for me and "generate activity" and, to quote Dorothy Parker
What fresh hell is this
As the parent of a Toddler, you get 5 spell slots between long rests.
You can use them to cast any of the following:
1. Prestidigitation (Target: soggy cereal in shag carpet)
2. Haste (to get home in time with the kid screaming PEE!!!)
3. Convincing Argument ("Why can dogs pee on the street and I can't?")
4. Patience (Range: Self)
5. Sleep (repeat as needed)
6. Control Self (and not eat an entire box of hidden cookies after bedtime)
Choose wisely.
*Long Rest*
Regain all lost hit points
*Short Rest*
Regain hit points equal to constitution modifier + roll
*Naptime Rest*
Regain half of hit points, and spend the other half watching the clock to see how many minutes are left before the kid wakes up
*Husband Is Feeding the Kid Rest*
Poop in Peace
*Peppa Episode Rest*
Summon Coffee (prepared spell)
*Bedtime Rest*
Fall asleep while humming, wake up Disoriented
*Grandparents Are Here Rest*

I just saw this in the wild 😄
Toddler likes to get up at 5am.
Facebook Ads decided to add insult to injury.
I'm continuing my "following folktales around the world" blog series with a spinoff: reading folktale collections from Hungarian Roma traditional storytellers.
First up: Jóni Ferenc, with talent for putting unexpected twists on well known tale types, and using elaborate cursing to color his tales for adults. His empathy shines through as well. I found many favorites in this book.

The kiddo used my #AdventCalendar animal cards in a single elimination game to determine her favorite. Apparently, it's the pistol shrimp. The potoo was a close second. Now to see if a challenger emerges from the next pockets.
(Also I'm pretty sure she chose shrimp because her dad is Cajun and she sees it as yummy. 😅 )
This year's #UglySweater is actually pretty cute. 😄
Musing
I love #writer conversations on social media, and community experiences such as NaNo, but I often feel like I can't participate because my genre is so different... Writing folklore collections is not the same process, and not the same problems. I would love to have more writers around me who work with folktales, myths, traditional material. Like @juergen_hubert 😊
This doesn't mean I don't love reading "behind the scenes" wip stuff from other genre writers though 😊
There is a Hungarian belief that at midnight on St. Lucia's Night, animals can talk for an hour. In case you wanted to find out what your pets have to say about you... 😉 🐈 🐕 🐇
Nobody warned me that once I become a parent all the stories in my Christmas repertoire are going to make me cry.
What the heck.
Today's #AdventCalendar draw: jerboa and axolotl. Much cuteness 😊
I just learned from a book that flapper lingo for something very cool was "It's the kitty's eyebrows." 😆🐱
In case the bee's knees are not enough.
Annual reminder that after several centuries of warring over who has the real relics of St. Nicholas, DNA analysis has proved that both Venice and Bari own half and half of Santa.
Sharing the corpses of long dead saints is caring, children.🎅🎅
Raising a bilingual toddler has its moments. Like this morning when I woke up to her yelling "GOOD MORNING, HO!" at me. 😂
(Hó is snow in Hungarian. She was excited about snow.)
"Do you want this snack?"
"NO!"
"Are you sure? You seem hungry."
"EW!"
"So you are not going to eat this snack?"
"NO! EW!"
"Alright, then I'm eating it.... What are you doing?"
"ROLLING FOR INITIATIVE"
Hi, I'm a storyteller and here is today's #StorytellingPSA:
No, there is no "original" primary source on Greek mythology that has Persephone walking into the Underworld willingly. Sorry, Tumblr.
As of today, I have been on Mastodon for one year (after 12 on the birb site). No regrets. I have more meaningful interactions, more followers who are real people, and my timeline feels a lot less like doomscrolling. It has been good for my mental health.
I know Mastodon is not perfect, and there are important things to do better. I hope we will. This place deserves it.
