Portland OR:
Community organizer Tuesday Longway needs help.
He feeds unhoused people, refurbishes and redistributes computers for free, fights fascists, and offers a host of other community support.
As he says, “It’s Black History Month and I can’t even pay my rent on time. This country hates Black men so much I’m not even able to find work of any kind right now.”
If you have a spare $20, his Venmo is @ TuesdayLongway

Periodic reminder for no particular reason:
I have never used biometric—face or fingerprint—locks. You can be forced to open those. Numeric locks need a warrant.
Your phone is a tracker. Might want to leave it at home if you’re, you know, having fun with friends.
And look up the number of your local National Lawyers Guild branch, also just for fun.
Holy Brigid:
In these times of conflagration
That engulf the skies at night…
Light the fire that guides our way.
Kindle within us the flame of inspiration.
We speak your name….
"Brigid is both healer and inspirer, forger and comforter. In tumultuous times, we need all of these qualities, and can hopefully reflect them for each other..."

"Turn your goodwill towards each other. Never give your support to oppressive systems built on stolen lands." — @tawasi
It is the National Day of Mourning for Indigenous people in the US/Turtle Island, marking the ongoing genocide and oppression that began in the 1600s.
I hope you find a way to give support—whether through money or time—to Indigenous people local to where you are.
Let's take care of each other. Always.

Hello, friends!
Whatever happens, we still need community organizing, resource and skills sharing, and mutual aid.
And art.
@mwl thanks for sharing and yeah, the one sheet is a one sheet on purpose. It’s for everyone who woke up yesterday and downloaded Signal for the first time. 😂
If you live in Oregon or Washington State and vote, heads up that ballot boxes in Portland and Vancouver were both set on fire this morning. Looks like mail in might be safer this round.
@roadriverrail “[English] not only borrows words from other languages; it has on occasion chased other languages down dark alley-ways, clubbed them unconscious and rifled their pockets for new vocabulary.”
— James Nicoll
@roadriverrail I do know and appreciate that… except when I find it annoying!
English, why so many homonyms?
Why????

Your difference helps you shine.
Recognize whose lands these are on which we stand.
Ask the deer, turtle, and the crane.
Make sure the spirits of these lands are respected and treated with goodwill.
The land is a being who remembers everything.
You will have to answer to your children, and their children, and theirs—
The red shimmer of remembering will compel you up the night to walk the perimeter of truth for understanding...
By listening we will understand who we are in this holy realm of words.
“When we commit to love in our daily life, habits are shattered. We are necessarily working to end domination.”
Happy birthday, bell hooks.
Mirna el Helbawy’s project desperately needs eSims.
US friends, the recent social security # leaks may be causing an uptick in financial fraud (opening bank accounts and credit cards). This just happened to someone I know, hence this PSA.
One way to help allay fraud is to freeze credit reports. It’s easy and takes around 15 min online:
