i was watching an icelandic crime drama on the airplane, and it was driving me nuts that every time they pulled out this piece of evidence, the word was drawn slightly differently!!!

this amazing observation was all well and good until i realized my seat mate was growing increasingly concerned with me pausing the movie and taking these pictures

I had two wins this weekend I want to remember.

① My son Joby found a janky script that could automate his Forza auctions (lol). We downloaded it, and tried it, but it didn’t quite work — it’d hit the wrong button.

Joby found the piece of the code he thought it might be (I was proud!), and then Dad showed up to fix some Python!!! I’ve never, ever touched Python!!! I immediately mixed tabs and spaces, whoops!!!

But I fixed it. (And wrote a comment explaining my fix!) He was so happy.

② I gave a short talk at the last XOXO conference. Months of anxiety, but, maybe worth it.

It was a thing I’ve wanted to (fully) share for a long time. I approached it like a story, with a proper arc. And… it basically worked? Most of my jokes landed! Everything I set up pretty much delivered! The crowd was amazing! It was about as good as it gets.

(Trivia: I write my talks in my head, not a word written down. But that means, despite being done, my brain is STILL practicing and revising 😵💫)

I am habitually bad about barreling onto the next fire or goal when something nice is complete — I’m desperately trying to get better about pausing and appreciating.

So, thanks for appreciating with me.

Frst two top-of-mind thoughts about Apple Intelligence:

• I really wish they would have addressed the environmental story. That would help me personally accept these features more. But I know they can’t… because the story isn’t good.

• I actually think a lot of it looks quite nice, feels Apple-esque, and the UI they’re doing is really cool, but I remain viscerally repulsed by any AI generated art. (In their Notes demo, the sketch looked better!!)
