@aaribaud When the Theseus II reached Alpha Centauri, all the original crew were dead. Then again, on a Generation Ship with an efficient recycling system, all the new crew were effectively all the old crew too.
@skinnylatte@sindarina Maybe it’s the midwesterner in me, surrounded by ELCA Lutherans, Congregationalists, PCUSA Presbyterians, and more of the liberal denominations that do advocate for the greater good that keeps me hopeful.
I can’t lump them all together for similar reasons why I can’t say all blacks/mexicans/indians/gays/trans/men/women/Jews/Muslims/etc are X.
I’m not ready to give up on nuance, even though it sometimes makes me tired in this world.
@sindarina@skinnylatte I struggle with the concept of “the church” as it is used by most people to describe Christianity. Protestants are all over the place when it comes to their beliefs and teachings. There are many Protestant, especially evangelical congregations that I would argue are not Christian in their teachings. (1/2)
@evan@marick Sorry, that was a LBJ/Humphrey, Carter/Mondale, Harris/Walz comparison. Minnesotan’s don’t get near the top of the ticket all that often, seemingly only as VP candidates only. Another thing Carter and Harris have in common is their MN VPs. LBJ apparently played golf, but was horrible at it. https://www.scga.org/blog/13174/every-presidential-golfer-ranked-by-handicap/
@inthehands@kmck@arclight Increasing fresh air intake is possible in buildings with forced air systems. Think about the buildings on your campus without central air. Often older dorms with radiant heat that are expected to be vacant in the summer.
