I feel like to a certain extent pacifism has a privelege problem. A lot of people fail to understand that violence being framed as a choice is ignoring reality for those of us who face discrimination or have lived at the bottom of society, of which I have both. Everyone in society is either having violence constantly inflicted upon them, participating in the systems that push that violence down upon others, or a mix of both.

There is no peace in our current society. Society as a whole, as it exists today, is violence, and being able to ignore that reality is privelege. For pacifism to attain any viability requires a fundamental change in society. Otherwise all it will mean is "peaceful violence", meaningless to those of us subject to it, and a denial of reality by those who inflict it.

Zusammenhängen mit Revolutionen in der westlichen Welt. Wer weiß was da für Verbindungen bestehen. Sicher ist aber das Kaffee müde Revolutionär:innen munter macht! 😀

Today in Labor History January 5, 1919: Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg launched the Spartacist Uprising in Berlin. Part of the post-WWI Revolution occurring throughout Germany, the Spartacist uprising was essentially a power struggle between the Spartacists and other Council Communists (left-wing, anti-authoritarian communists) against the Social Democrats. 500,000 workers participated in the General Strike they called for January 7 to replace the moderate Social Democratic government with a communist one. Many of the workers obtained arms. They tried, but failed, to get the support of the Navy, which remained neutral in the conflict. However, the Social Democrats got the anti-Communist Freikorps paramilitary to fight for their side. The Freikorps had weapons and military equipment leftover from WWI and were able to quash the uprising within a week. The Freikorps was comprised of WWI vets, many of whom were suffering from PTSD. Many went on to became Nazis. Up to 200 people died in the fighting, including 17 Freikorps soldiers. The Social Democrats captured, beat and executed Liebknecht and Luxemburg.

127 years ago today, #Freemason #Filipino-Chinese Dr. José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, was executed by #Spain's #Spanish overlords, and Roman #Catholic Church priests, in the #Philippines.

On December 30, 1896, he was walked from his prison in #Intramuros to Bagumbayan (later called: #Luneta and then #RizalPark) in #Manila. It's more or less 2 km by [modern] road.

The main/primary monument for Rizal is located 100m SSE of where he was shot by the #Spaniards.
