A 100 year old maths problem has been solved by an undergraduate at Penn State University. More impressive is the fact that the problem has helped to make wind turbines more efficient. The model of turbine efficiency was first proposed by a British aerodynamicist last century, but the model was based on a maths problem that assumed turbines were solid. Between 1st July 2023 and the end of April 2024, Uruguay generated all of its electricity from hydro, wind, bioenergy and solar.

Hydroelectric plants comprised 42.9% of the total mix, followed closely by wind farms at 40.6%. Bioenergy (12.9%) and solar (3.5%) accounted for the remainder.
