#OnThisDay, 21 Mar 1945, Hannie Schaft, an active member of the Dutch resistance known as "the girl with the red hair", is arrested at a German checkpoint in Haarlem.
She is later executed, allegedly saying "I shoot better" after the first attempt to shoot her missed.
Henrik Ibsen's play Ghosts (published in 1881) achieves a single London performance, its English-language stage première (at the Royalty Theatre). To evade the Lord Chamberlain's Office's censorship, it has to be staged privately by the Independent Theatre Society, but still attracts strong criticism on moral grounds.
#OnThisDay, 11 Mar 1959, Lorraine Hansberry's play, A Raisin in the Sun, is the first play by a Black woman to debut on Broadway.

Scottish political economist Adam Smith's book The Wealth of Nations, the first modern work in economics, was published.
It has become a fundamental work in classical economics, and has been described as "the first formulation of a comprehensive system of political economy".
#OtD 6 Mar 1944 Italian resistance partisans breached the Camp 59 concentration camp in Servigliano, Italy, and helped a small number of mostly Jewish Italian prisoners to escape.
