Okay, oil seems to have settled in for now at a $6/barrel jump following the shitstain's verbal squirts - at least for the moment. This is as aftermarket as you get for oil, really, so reactions can be either muted or exaggerated - but a jump like this at any time of day is a big yikes under any circumstances.

(Because while this may be a thin time of day for trades, there's not an _actually_ thin time of day for oil in general.)

In what was perhaps a pre-emptive pitch before Trump’s speech, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran posted an open letter to the US public, warning of the costs of a prolonged war. “Continuing along the path of confrontation is more costly & futile than ever before,” said the letter.

Multiple #US #intelligence agencies have assessed in recent days that Tehran is not willing to engage in serious negotiations, because it believes that #Trump himself is not serious about talks, & that #Iran is in a strong position in the #war.

Trump’s address from the White House comes as he has offered conflicting messages this week about his objectives for the war, which has caused #economic fallout across the globe & hundreds of #deaths in Iran & other countries in the region.

Speaking to Reuters Wednesday, #Trump said he no longer cared about the enriched #uranium that #Iran possessed because he claimed it was buried deep underground, buried after the June 2025 strikes. Trump’s comment was sharply at odds with his argument that a main goal of the #war was to prevent Iran from being able to produce an atomic #bomb.
