It’s wild that the Liberal government spent all the time educating Canadians on Reconciliation with #Indigenous people and those of us who took it seriously took it to mean de-colonizing our minds and lives; only for them to turn around and support Israel in annihilating the Indigenous Palestinian population? It is why #Canada is not as pro-Israel as Americans and why they have to bully us about it.

It's called "justice reinvestment", and it's the idea that we put money into the prevention of crime by giving it to community-led programs that will support people and address the drivers of contact with the criminal justice system.

We know that the biggest driver towards criminal behaviour is poverty, and if governments really want to address crime (as they all claim they do), they'd be addressing poverty.

Governments talk about engaging in justice reinvestment, but when you look at the amount of money they give to these programs ($17.25m in Australia) and compare it to the amount they waste on obsolete submarines ($368 BILLION), you get more of a sense of what's actually happening.

The #ArtOfReconciliation is a 2-month program that takes place virtually and on the traditional territory of the #lək̓ʷəŋən People (
- #Songhees and #Esquimalt Nations) and the #WSÁNEĆ #FirstNations.

The Art of Reconciliation project explores how young adults feel about #reconciliation and helps them express those feelings through #art. Some of that #artwork will be created for the general public to interact with and possibly inspire them to reflect on their own feelings about reconciliation as only art can do.

Benefits to Participants:
$250 #honorarium provided for the completion of the program and participation in the documentation.

Program sessions start September 15th and will take place in person and over zoom, see detailed schedule below. Final art works are due November 4th for a show at the #VictoriaArtsCouncil main gallery on Store Street and will be on display until November 27th.

After a 3 year investigation, the federal government has acknowledged that it invested $23.3B (adjusted) on a boarding school system to break up #Indigenous families and communities, and destroy language and culture.

The report suggests that the US should invest that same amount of money in family reunification, language revitalization, and Indian education to help repair the havoc wreaked by 400 schools from 1871 to 1969, which killed at least 973 children.
