Great talk by @samuel_wade of #GNU #Hurd fame, in a packed room, selling the the Hurd really well (in my not entirely unbiased opinion, of course) and starting with

It's all about Freedom #0,

and also Freedom from the system administrator. We know all about that, isn't right #Guix folks?

And although @debian is really still carrying and championing the Hurd effort, plenty of attribution to the work of others, mentioning Guix at least three times!

Todd C. Miller has been maintaining the #sudo codebase for over 30 years. This is exactly one of those cases where an entire critical infrastructure is held together by the work of a single volunteer who apparently can’t find anyone willing to sponsor him for some financial support. #opensource #linux #foss #GNU

One of my local volunteer projects is the library's website which I'm updating this morning as Cosmo waits for second breakfast.

Happily using #FreeSoftware: ghostwriter for markdown conversion to html. Then I'll use Kate to edit a couple html files then upload with Filezilla. #GNU #Linux @linuxmint and the Cinnamon DE. All running on a 2018 #Thinkpad bought for $250 on Ebay.

No need for new/expensive hardware from #apple.
No #malware from #Microsoft or #google

2.7までのGNU inetutilsに含まれるtelnetdに、細工した環境変数を送信するだけで認証を回避して特権ユーザーでのログインが可能な脆弱性が発見されらしい。CVE-2026-24061。いまどきtelnetdをThe Internetに露出している人はそうそういないはずとはいえ、なかなか興味深いので調べてみたところ。`telnetd`が`execv()`で呼び出す`/usr/bin/login`のコマンドラインオプションをうまく使うことでそういうことができてしまうようで、正直興奮した。
