https://www.europesays.com/2125273/ Energy Department scuttles $3.7B in clean-energy projects. It’s among the biggest and most specific cases yet of Trump pulling the plug on the Biden awards for low-carbon energy. “The abrupt termination of $3.7 billion in clean energy investment is shortsighted and malicious.” #Energy
#NY had blocked both pipelines over #environmental concerns. But Trump has made clear that he wants more #oil & #gas infrastructure, including in the Northeast, where pipelines had become so hard to build that companies had all but given up on them.
💻 **AI could account for nearly half of datacentre power usage ‘by end of year’**
“_The IEA estimates that all data centres – excluding mining for cryptocurrencies – consumed 415 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity last year. De Vries-Gao argues in his research that AI could already account for 20% of that total._”
A question: if there was a cataclysm like in "Station Eleven" where 99% of humanity was wiped out, what would happen to #nuclear reactors and weapons? Are there doomsday scenarios for power plants in the event of something happening to the humans? Could such a site be decommissioned manually? How long would such a site last before it is dangerous?
The first person I thought to ask is @bojacobs but would love boosts for more thoughts!

Top story: While #Bitcoin is designed as a decentralized payment system, its consumption of Texans’ true wealth—natural resources—is centralized in the hands of a few companies, sucking up massive amounts of water and #energy to keep hardware running 24/7. https://www.texasobserver.org/the-crypto-racket/
#Trump’s proposal aims to cut the Dept of #Energy’s annual budget by $4.7B, mainly by cutting programs related to #RenewableEnergy & #ClimateChange. But even more significantly, the proposal aims to cancel roughly $15 billion in #CleanEnergy funding that the agency was given as part of the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill. That would mean rescinding funds for, among other things, battery manufacturing, technologies that can remove carbon dioxide from the air & electric-vehicle charging.
#Trump’s budget proposes to eliminate entirely a $4.1 billion program that helps #LowIncome Americans pay their #heating & #cooling#bills. The proposal says that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program [#LIHEAP] is “unnecessary” because Trump is planning to increase domestic #oil & #gas production & reduce #energy prices. Last month, the admin fired everyone working in the program’s office, which currently helps 6.2 million Americans nationwide offset high #UtilityBills.
Governor Newsom’s CPUC has proposed to break the state’s contract with nearly two million solar customers, slash their solar credit, and slap them with a solar tax.
A former SoCal Edison lobbyist, Assemblymember Lisa Calderon, has filed a bill to make this proposal law (AB 942).
These changes would apply to ALL solar customers who signed up for solar before April 2023 (NEM1 and NEM2).
AB 942 is scheduled for a hearing on April 30th. There is talk of tweaking the bill so lawmakers can break solar contracts while selling it as a “compromise.” Don’t let them get away with it."
