Agreement on a new cross-channel energy connector has stalled as France & the UK cannot agree on costs; the UK wants equal budget sharing for the construction; France thinks the UK should take on the bulk of the cost.

The French position is as for most (but not all) the time the UK is importing electricity generated in France, the benefits are gained by the UK & so the UK should cover the majority of the costs.

I'll leave it for you to decide if that's unreasonable!

In the latest round of 'contracts for difference' guaranteeing electricity subsidies for renewables, solar has been the big winner, with onshore wind & also tidal gaining significant packages of guarantees.

While the contracts guarantee prices for a period, the Govt. is banking on this supporting the build-out, leaving competition among a wider range of renewables to produce price reductions in the decade (2030s).

Its a welcome shift towards the green transition.

Well, once again the attraction of centralisation has proved to great....

GB Energy have scaled back by around two thirds the amount they were expected to spend on local community power projects (such as solar & heat pumps); about 2.5bn less.... but they're are pushing £2.5bn more into modular nuclear plants.

So less money on an efficient green local technology & more on a white elephant cooked up by the nuclear lobby.

    Another betrayal of localism!

They make a VITAL point: countries with expensive energy cannot compete on anything: not manufacturing, not services, not tech. (And, I'd argue, not socially nor environmentally.) Which means, to put it politely, they're screwed.

Aotearoa New Zealand: looking at us here and our ever-climbing energy costs, enabled by greed, short-termism and political expedience.

"Two New York lawmakers on Friday announced that they are introducing a bill that would impose a three-year moratorium on data center development. The announcement makes New York at least the sixth state to introduce legislation putting a pause on data center development in the past few weeks—one of the latest signs of a growing and bipartisan backlash that is quickly finding traction in statehouses around the country.

Data center moratoriums are “being tested as a model throughout states in this country,” said state senator Liz Krueger, a Democrat, who presented the bill at a press conference Friday with its cosponsor, assemblymember Anna Kelles, also a Democrat. “Democrats and Republicans are moving forward with exactly these kinds of moratoriums. New York should be in the front of the line to get this done.”

The new bill comes as a wave of bipartisan anti-data center sentiment that has swept across the country in recent months. In December, Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent, became the first national politician to call for a blanket moratorium on data center permitting, saying that a moratorium would “ensure that the benefits of technology work for all of us, not just the 1 percent.”"

"We're going heavy into #nuclear. I was not a big fan because I didn't like the risk, the danger, but the progress they've made with nuclear is unbelievable, & the safety progress they've made is incredible," Trump said.

Breakthrough in Finland: Electricity transmitted through air! ⚡🇫🇮
Researchers from University of Helsinki and University of Oulu have successfully transmitted electricity using ultrasonic sound waves and laser beams—no physical wires needed. The technology uses high-intensity ultrasonic waves to create invisible air paths that guide electrical sparks, forming "acoustic wires."

#RevolutionWind is one of 5 offshore #wind projects under construction along the East Coast that were ordered to stop work last month by the #Trump admin, which cited unspecified [BS] “national security” concerns. Several #states, as well as developers of 4 of the projects, have challenged the move in court. The case involving Revolution Wind was the first complaint to be heard.
