Maybe Apple will now be spending 10 years developing the Apple Train 🚄
The latest iOS 17.4 beta has this new screen every time you want to install an app from the App Store in the EU.

@rachel Thanks 😊

I keep stumbling upon screenshots of random people using my Mastodon theme, and I have to say, it feels pretty good to see that my work is actually being used by real people in real life. 🥺
I have always been bothered by the double-height top toolbar in Mastodon's default mobile UI.
I'm currently experimenting with a compact top toolbar in @TangerineUI v2.0. This compact toolbar puts the column header and the main app actions on a single line at the top of the screen.
What do you all think? :)
“Bluesky could be the future of content moderation”.
I 100% disagree.
Yes, the protocol offers a plethora of ways to filter content and ensure you never come across, say, Nazis.
But that’s not what content moderation is. Content moderation is making decisions. It is either welcoming or refusing certain types of content on your platform.
If you’re letting everyone in, and telling your users "but you have control!", you’re not moderating anything. You’re just quitting.
Close to nothing wrecks my mood like discovering an app I like is made by people who would rather see me tortured or dead.
What's worse is reading straight white people dismiss those facts for their own convenience, just so they can continue using and recommending said app.
Those people will cry out "cancel culture!” and “why can't we have nice things anymore??”
Dude, I should be the one to cry out “why we can't we have nice things”. I'm the one who has to spend hours searching Reddit and forums to find out if an app is made by nazis or not — while all you have to do to keep enjoying ‘nice things’ is shrug the problem away.
(It's definitely okay not to be aware of everything wrong with the apps you're using — not everyone can have the time and energy to keep up with this stuff.
I'm just talking about privileged people who are actively choosing to sweep the problem under the rug, and continue endorsing those apps, even though they are fully aware that the developers are nazis.)
I recently posted about an extreme and obvious example of nazis bombarding an LGBT account with violent nazi imagery on Threads. https://www.threads.net/@nileanedorffer/post/C1nX06Hoihg/
Today, over a week later, the nazi posts — including all those that I took time to report — are still up.
Even Dorsey’s Twitter would have at least removed some of these posts by now. On Threads, not only do they stay up, they also get recommended in people’s feeds.
Moral of the story: The Elves should have never left us for Valinor.
But also: good on them for leaving us for Valinor
Here’s a couple of screenshots from the forum thread since it seems to be down at the moment.
1st screenshot is the initial post from a user expressing their concerns.
2nd and 3rd screenshots are responses from the Kagi team.
After exchanging a few DMs with Kagi founder Vladimir Prelovac tonight, it seems that they are not going to change or evolve their stance on this matter anytime soon. Welp.
@marquiskurt That discord server is a shit show
What a disappointment.
I was genuinely enthusiastic about Kagi. I've been using the service for about a month, and I would have gladly continued my subscription for what I thought was a great product.
But there's no way I'm letting any more of my money go to them if they're perfectly aware that there's a chance it could end up in the accounts of those who actively fight to have me stripped of my rights.
Huge yikes.
Kagi is now partnering with Brave to power its search results — and they seem to be dismissing their users’ concerns regarding this partnership with a company that’s notorious for being led by a proud anti gay rights supporter.
Just as I’ve consistently advised against using Brave’s products, I now advise against using Kagi as long as it contributes to a homophobic business.
There can be no neutral politics when it comes to people’s rights and lives.

Sounds to me like another Netflix key on TV remotes kind of fiasco. https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/4/24023809/microsoft-copilot-key-keyboard-windows-laptops-pcs
