@MediaActivist Love the method. As long as the term manages to unmask the rhetorical trick they try to use, their derailment perpetrator-victim-reversal blame game, it works. What would you suggest to use when the term "woke" gets used in a similar way? That one is tricky. "The politician made fun of woke culture gone mad" He made fun of non-discrimination framed it as mad?
@MediaActivist Yeah, according to that list, Ghost does sound like a better deal. Even though it was published by ghost themselves. But maybe the best approach would be to talk to someone who has made the move from wp to ghost, how that went?
@MediaActivist If your plan is to switch from a self-hosted set up to a hosted one, i personally think it would be much less trouble to switch to a wordpress.com blog. But the price differences might be something to look into. Like how much does it cost to remove adds, to have a custom URL and such. If you want, we can talk about it on Signal.
@MediaActivist Are you self-hosting a Wordpress blog or are you on Wordpress.com? I just saw, that Ghost also offers both these options. If the argument is the newsletter ability, this can also be done with wordpress through plugins. But i have to say, i personally don't use them.
"Forget it, be happy, keep shopping: if you don’t live and work as though the virus has vanished, you’re holding the country back. There could scarcely be a more powerful symbol of the all-clear than doctors and nurses greeting their patients without masks."
"There’s plenty of masking going on, but not the kind that prevents infection. The government is masking its failure to get to grips with this virus. It’s masking the fact that, thanks to three years of such failures, Covid-19 is now a constantly evolving endemic infection likely to kill or disable many thousands every winter. It’s masking the ableism its rhetoric has encouraged: the othering and blaming of those who contract the disease, driven by the widespread but wholly >
@MediaActivist Insight would be a vast exaggeration. I know the two parts of it from Switzerland, barrikade from the swiss-german and renverse from the swiss-french part.
So yes, i do have a #bluesky account, have tried it out for a few weeks and fail to see the advantage it should have over mastodon. On the contrary. Technically it sucks: No edits, no DMs, no CWs, shorter post length. And politically as well: Not federated and Jack fucking Dorsey, the free speech fanatic, Musk-fanboy and RFKjr. supporter.
But for some strange reason instead of coming here many have switched to that gated community after they left Shitter.
"The push to return to a pre-pandemic mode will have been coordinated between the highest political and media offices, with business CEOs well in the mix, if not the originating node, of this push."
How the consent to make #COVID a non-story was manufactured.
"Covid doesn’t have a PR agency, and most studies are coming out of niche research labs or universities that have very limited or non-existent PR teams/agency support."
@MediaActivist That sounds like a great project, i love these types of media initiatives. But they also have gotten so much more complicated in this day and age. I noticed how in the MUTU network they also have barrikade.info. But sadly during the pandemic they have been publishing questionable content, anti-vaxx and such. Especially i media, the contested topics are rampant. A huge moderation challenge.
But so far i can only seem to find my main author-handle, but not the handle to the feed of the entire blog: @pieceoplastic.com@pieceoplastic.com. What am i doing wrong @pfefferle?
@MediaActivist Very true. I do think that social media is not very helpful, at least some aspects of it, as it can give the illusion to have friends, to not feel lonely. And i admit i have fallen for that in the past. At the same time, social media can help to connect to people. To become friends needs that next step. To take if offline or into a dedicated or intentional group. When that happens, good things can result. Same right back at you.
"The average human can name about 1,500 people, and we personally know about 500.¹
But most of those people won't help us in times of need.
The people who will help are our friends – and psychologist Robin Dunbar argues that we have an average of 150 people who we try to stay in touch with.² Within that group, we have about 15 friends and family we contact each month and one to two people with whom we share an intimate relationship – often a partner, and sometimes a "best friend forever.""
