Just trying to imagine if people a few hundred years ago had been here to witness, in the span of a few weeks, an eclipse, an earthquake, a supernova as bright as the North Star, and an unexpected appearance of the northern lights.
I thought 'Oh, a silly grammar cock-up that makes for a fun local news story'. Then I read the first line. I won't spoil the surprise but maybe make sure there's no-one close when you yell 'OH FOR FU...'
@FinchHaven@Raccoon@Mastodon what is the acceptable amount of support a service is allowed to have? And what is the maximum acceptable salary for a mastodon maintainer?
@kimonostereo I’ve been using @eleventy on @glitchdotcom and I love it. I can just write when I wanna write, and there’s fun easy stuff to tinker with when I wanna do that.
One of the great curses in technology is that, if you’ve ever built a content management system, especially a blogging tool, you can never stop building better ones in your head, even though the actual products in reality never get any better. Here @mathowie falls down the rabbit hole again. https://a.wholelottanothing.org/a-blueprint-of-my-dream-blogging-cms/
@triptych the first couple times i loaded it, it was just a bunch of gradient colors, now it's a login box wtih no description of what it is. a little too unapproachable for me.
@jimray@tantramar@ianbetteridge@tfb@loke yeah I think John is at least still willing to engage honestly with people who favor regulation, but certainly that cohort is surrounded by VC-style extremism around demonizing laws.
@loke@ianbetteridge The idea that data protection is something people should have a right to have, for free, is certainly at odds with his belief that Apple is selling a right to privacy with their products (and that this is a good thing)
FWIW, here's where I had the conversation about paying for software a while back over on the bird site. I got a mix of responses. By there was definitely a lot of "I can't believe you actually pay money for things!"
