@pluralistic My mom died explicitly because the only medicine that worked even slightly for her leukemia was patented, all the methods to produce it were patented and no generics could be made. The insurance (CIGNA, if it matters) insisted it would only pay for a cheaper drug to which her cancer was already proven unresponsive.

They let her try both drugs and then denied the one that worked.

Maybe the executives should be facing mass unemployment and replacement with automation while the people whose jobs can't be done by AI stop getting threatened with it.

A lie is any knowingly false statement made to manipulate another person.

Everything Trump says that is false and aimed at manipulating the electorate is a lie. Not a falsehood, not untrue, none of the euphemisms accurately reflect reality.

@br00t4c I know at least one "Ape" and really the motivation now isn't so much "get rich" as it is "ruin the hedge funds".

These funds are actively manipulating the market off the exchanges to force pricing for GameStop, AMC Theaters and God only knows what all else to be within their preferred parameters.

These companies set up a stock to fail and then invest massively, on margin, shorting the stock they sabotaged. They lose money every time the stock doesn't fail and that's motivation enough

Does the Senate GOP want to admit to being complicit or stupid?

@br00t4c She's the VP. Her official job is to be Biden's backup and to sometimes vote in the Senate, I'm not sure personally carrying people out of the storm zone is really something we can hold her accountable for.

They're repugnant narcissists who believe everybody is out to screw everybody else. They then joined a whole enclave of like-minded assholes and expected what to come of it?
