Quite frankly, I blame Greenpeace. After all, it was their postcards of polar bears and whales that repeatedly brought my 11-year-old self to tears and, ultimately, action! You see in 1970 postcards, phone calls and door knocking were the primary ways that environmental groups had to raise funds. And those early postcards worked!
Donate What You Can I remember the day when thought turned into action. Gathering two dollars in quarters and finding a roll of tape, I sat down and carefully taped those coins to the polar bear card. That simple childhood act changed me. Those quarters changed how I understood money, and the power of donating to a cause.
You never forget your first time, do you? It can influence how you view something for the rest of your life. And there's only, ever, one first-time, right? My first time happened over 50 years ago, but get your mind out of the gutter, I’m talking about my first donation!
Over the years, my activism only grew. I ran for Parliament, volunteered for environmental and social justice movements, harboured political refugees through Amnesty International, and generally rebelled at injustice.
Now, more than 50 years later, I’m honoured to raise funds for XR Global Support and the more than 160,000 activists they support around the planet.
Maybe the real conspiracy theory is being forced to buy a two-ton, dinosaur-juice-powered metal box from one of a dozen mega-corporations just to get to the damn grocery store.

Who would have thought? The Peers defend the right to protest.
Home Office minister Andrew Sharpe said: “What we are trying to ascertain is the point to which protesters can disrupt the lives of the general public. And the government position is clear – we are on the side of the public.
Uk sees protest as a crime USA uses anti terrorist laws to convict protesters Italy uses anti Mafia laws to track and monitor climate activists. Some countries assassinate activists & protectors.
Climate protest is necessary; it is not terrorism nor organized crime.
“Atmospheric rivers," which have nothing to do with the surface of a river, shining in the moonlight through the low-running fog of a summer's evening. This is not about nature's gift for set decoration. This is about nature's gift for …
For five months last year, low-carbon electricity sources (solar, wind, hydrogen and nuclear) constituted more than 50% of the country’s energy use. And unbelievably, the National Grid spends hundreds of millions to billions a year constraining energy supply.
Renewables will lower the cost of energy
