@HauntedOwlbear Not quite, although close. This was all done through a system called Résarail that’s being closed down on 23 May. The new system isn’t yet built and there’s talk it might be ready in 2025…

Me: Why can I not book a ticket for Berlin on SNCF Connect?

SNCF employee: It’s not possible

Me: But why?

SNCF: “C’est la faute de l’Europe!” (It’s Europe’s fault)

Me: But why can DB sell me a SNCF ticket? SBB a Trenitalia ticket? The only one stopping is SNCF.

SNCF: You have to buy it on the site of DB then or Trainline

(My jaw dropped at that!)

Me: It’s not because SNCF is closing Résarail?

SNCF: It’s because of international agreements!

The reason we don’t have a “Skyscanner for rail” is *mostly* NOT for technical reasons

It’s because rail firms don’t want to share data with each other

Example: Trenitalia doesn’t want to sell SNCF’s Milano-Paris tickets *because it doesn’t want to*, not because it can’t

UIC’s Open Sales and Distribution Model (OSDM) is a technical standard. At the margin helpful but rail firms can and almost certainly will still refuse to share data with each other

Fuck off really.

In the train to Hamburg. A dude starts playing music on his phone loudly. I ask him to use earphones. He says he has none. And he gets aggressive towards me and asks *me* to move. And then accuses me of being aggressive because I got annoyed. 😡

But at least he stops playing the music.

The scale of this absurd decision is amazing. And it plays right into the hands of the likes of Trainline

What states and the EU ought to do - facilitate cross border travel in a green way - they’re abjectly failing to do (see today’s SNCF (state owned railway) saga)

What they’re instead doing is racist passenger profiling and eroding #Schengen (Bundespolizei controlling anyone with dark skin at Offenburg)

While the rest of Europe is wondering how to sell *more* international rail tickets, SNCF is doing the opposite from 23 May 🙄

I am tired of #Deutschlandticket
- being attacked by middle aged men
- in newspapers read by middle aged men
- the media is edited by middle aged men, who...
- ... mostly drive cars, which is typical of middle aged men
- who make Besserwisser type of arguments, about how the ticket doesn't pay for itself, an argument typical of middle aged men

When the ticket benefits *all sorts of people across the whole of society*, most of whom are not middle aged men

I feel like I am tying myself in knots like this with bikes more and more often

My needs aren't *that* odd - I have a Birdy folding bike, two Croozer Cargo trailers - but I’m struggling to get the parts I want

It’s a German trailer - Croozer. And I’m in France currently. The only stockist of just this part I can find is in Freiburg 🇩🇪 and their online shop won’t send to 🇫🇷

That 🇪🇺 Single Market, eh?

So I’m going to try my luck with a Chinese generic one from Amazon instead 😡
