I just want a little unfederated instance which:

- we can use with the kids instead of whatever random chat app they have right now (no phone numbers, so no Signal)
- I can bridge with my WhatsApp so I can try daily-driving my Pinephone and park the Android in a drawer. And no, I'm not trying to strongarm my local, non-techie home-ed parent community off WhatsApp. At least not right now.

Well, in my case more like feeling we've already failed because the kids already have Android tablets and accounts with Google (because Android) and Microsoft (because Minecraft).

Add in that Kid 1 is super tech-curious and I don't want to completely spoil his excitement every time he learns about something new by saying "yeah that's cool in theory, but in reality it is owned by <insert awful megacorp here> who is just using it to stalk you and sell you stuff."

So I guess it's #introduction time.
