@mgerdts Our account on Benevity is awaiting for them to confirm our bank account for some weeks, and their support cant say when they will be able to do it. Their website show a message explaining that they are changing their confirmation process and confirmations are taking longer than usual at the moment. As soon as everything is setup and confirmed, we will add a link to it on the sponsor page (and will post about it). @mastodonmigration
A large part of the Mastodon team will be at #FOSDEM this year! We will have a table for Saturday with (hopefully, depends on manufacturing 🤞) some merch to sell. A good opportunity to skip the shipping fees 😉 We hope to meet many of you and make a lot of connections with other people from the FOSS community there!
@ericfreyss people suggested we use the social web to talk about the Fediverse in mainstream media, and I kind if like it. Not sure what the french translation could be
@filipe This is not only about features, or at least user-visible features. We have a lot of work to do around trust and safety for example (https://renchap.com/blog/post/evolving_mastodon_trust_and_safety/) and I think this is very important to get it done. But this is at least 1 year of work for one person, easily.
@brennansv I donated more than 1000 hours of work to Mastodon this year (and have been able to get paid for some more). This is not sustainable in the long run.
@andymouse I probably donated 1000 hours of my time to the project this year. This is not sustainable and we need to be able to pay people to work on Mastodon.
@ar3h1d they have twice as much full time developere working in their AcrivityPub implementation (a small part of their product) than we have full time devs on Mastodon
@evan from my experience, we should not tie someone’s online identity with their ISP. This is far too problematic when you want to switch ISP. We truee that with emails, did not work well at all.
Evening thought: the amount of funding Mastodon got this year is probably less than the salary for one of the top engineers working on Threads. Not sure what to make of it, but maybe it helps understand why things take time to be implemented.
Also a reason why we want to focus on getting more money in 2024 so we can hire more people and iterate more quickly on Mastodon ✊
