@wild1145 I will repeat what other said, but you really do not want to use dumps for backups at this scale. Use pgbackrest or another similar solution that relies on block backups, and do not require a copy of the data locally when backing up. @thisismissem
@ericfreyss not implemented yet, but one if their next goals iirc. At the moment only a few employees have it enabled, so I guess they assume those few wont generate content that can be an actionable report.
@evan 👀 interested in the replies, as we are thinking about how to federate link previews to avoid having each instance fetch it (and DDOS the link’s server)
@Ciantic unfortunately the work on this is stalled due to protocol issues, but I would like the dev that worked on it to write down the issues so we can figure out a plan to solve them and ship it somewhere in 2024. No promises, but will try @GossiTheDog
@kevinriggle there is a lot of margin between paying a correct salary (like what Mastodon does) and a 300/400/500k$ annual package like some engineers at big tech corps. @GossiTheDog
@rolle Yes, we definitely need this, and I want to push for it. I will need to discuss it with the team, but I am pretty sure we can experiment with new ways of working on such areas with non-core team contributors.
@nileane I forgot to reply on this issue, I thought I did! Will do it right now.
I am taking some time off with family this week, but let's try to discuss this in January. I am not the one making big decisions when it comes to product design, but I am sure we can try some experiments on how to work on it with a team of trusted people, with some coordination / guidance from @samhenrigold (who heads the design for the official apps) and @Gargron
@dimillian I would happily accept a pull request for this, it has been sitting on my list for a long time but I never got the time to look at it. There is a PR disabling setting the marker entirely and I even feel this would be a better solution than the current state…
@nileane I would definitely push for UI improvements to be merged, as well as any CSS improvements. I would like to switch to individual components CSS files (and not one huge components.scss), more CSS variables… We can discuss a process for this, for example issues with mockups or ideas that get flagged and validated by the team before getting implemented? @tchambers@ScottStarkey
Recently my son had CS coursework that involved converting a bowl-of-spaghetti logic diagram into a C++ program. Me, with 40 years of C experience, independently wrote my version of the program, he wrote his in C++. I asked him to send me his output and I sent him mine.
They didn't match, and sure enough I had messed up an AND gate.
