journa.host is an instance dedicated to journalists, its ToS ( https://journa.host/about/more ) does not regulate common harmful behaviour associated with journalism on social media (e.g. including posts and screenshots in articles without consent), and if notable mainstream journalists establish themselves here, they are likely to accrue large follower counts, another potential risk factor.
watching journalists talk about the fediverse is fascinating because it's one of a few subjects where I understand it well enough to understand how hard they're failing at basic research
@dell@mastodon.lol you've fallen into the trap a lot of new fedi users on mastodon instances do, and you're talking about fediverse as if it is mastodon. Imagine talking about email as 'postfix', for example, it's extremely relevant but it's conflating two related but very distinct things.
stay away from fediverse, people keep talking about 'cofe', and 'suya', whatever those are, everyone has pronouns and there's a 'cat ears mode'? it's most irregular, I'll be leaving to linkedin at once
I don't want fedi to be taken seriously, I'm quite keen that it's not, and I'm inspired by peoples commitment to harassing the European Commission, I believe that brands and celebrities will find that fedi is a thoroughly treacherous place to establish themselves, and good!
@emilis@puff.place oh I agree yeah, it's genuinely annoying this is a mastodon-only feature because I think this and the filtering are probably the two major things I want in other software
I've seen some Mastodon users talking about Mastodon's account redirection feature, and I think it's important to underscore the fact that this is not a universal fediverse feature.
You will not generally be able to use it if you're moving to or from an account on mastodon and other instance software, and followers using other software will not be automatically redirected.
If you move accounts, and you want people to follow your new account, you should write posts telling your followers that you are doing so, otherwise some of them will miss it.
@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me Twitter does already have a mechanism for people to request verification, I suspect if they went ahead with this that the two would go hand-in-hand, that they'd significantly loosen the criteria, since that would mean more revenue
"toots" are now called "florps". In the next mastodon release, likes will be upside-down, the timeline will go sideways, and the report dialog will have two new options which also do not send a report.
