Well, I'm uncomfortable with this kind of thing but I'm looking to get myself #FediHired. I'm a Senior SRE for a relatively major content platform company looking for full-time remote work in #Canada. I eats my veggies and was chief-Cassandra-wrangler for a while; what gets me excited to work on in industry are Disaster Recovery, documentation, RCA, and design for resiliency.

Looking for VPS recommendations that work well with third-party DNS and won't make me cry (I have almost no hobby budget, SRE pay ain't the same in Atlantic Canada as it is everywhere else.)

@silverwizard I'm only mentioning other engines because I have a vested interest in promoting them and because the Kids These Days needs reminding that this shit isn't even the original underpinning of the hobby, never mind a foundation of it.

Nobody owns the concept of rolling dice, and most of the premises of High Fantasy are so old that they're public domain where they aren't just straight folklore. That's why the old 3.5 SRD included basically the entire game except for anything where a specific character or a truly novel creature (like the Illithids) was mentioned.

So we can't use Tanis Half-elven specifically without giving them a cut. wgaf

@silverwizard This is my general point.

Even if they somehow managed to kill *their specific implementation of TTRPG rulesets* they still can't kill analagous operations and they DEFINITELY have no impact on mechanics that are entirely novel to theirs.

If WotC fucking imploded tomorrow, CoC and all the other BRP games would remain entirely whatever.

@silverwizard I really enjoy all the "kids these days" takes I'm seeing from the kids these days who don't understand that WotC has always been like this, they do this at least once an edition, and that the d20 system is at best only loosely coupled to D&D itself and even still is only one of dozens of RPG engines, not even counting stupid niche ones like mine.

@silverwizard In soviet canuckistan (which IIRC we share) you can transmit FM radio under a certain wattage unlicensed, that's like the whole premise of an entire class of now largely-obviated car accessories.

@silverwizard My whole thing is just... do I need another relatively high-spend hobby with a bevvy of associated equipment just to continue to not actually use anything past the proof of concept stage?

And much like the Golden Rule itself, I can't trust you fuckers with console access so we need CONTROLS.

@silverwizard I am very close to the "end" (in gameplay objective terms; the factory must always grow) of my initial railworld and since I own both the switch and PC versions of the game I'm SORELY tempted to do the PC version quite heavily modded.

K2 doesn't seem to be quite the vibe I'm chasing but I got pretty far in the main game on "solar alone" once I could produce them in automated fashion, so maybe I just need to do something similar with wahtever it is I pick.

People are saying Krastorio 2 might give me the "solarpunk factorio" vibe I am after.
