@Sui @Decayable @Formerly_Trucks @KiKi I've been researching printing presses of all sorts, and a $900 DTF printer setup is not gonna do any appreciable volume to pay itself off, and it's not gonna have much use beyond small scale prototyping.

@Sui @Decayable @Formerly_Trucks @KiKi A $900 setup for vinyl transfer will maybe get you a couple dozen T-shirts a day if you're working your ass off and planning your workflow. At this price, it's enough to buy a decent old used vinyl plotter and a cheap transfer press (avoid hobby plotters), but a $900 DTF printer is gonna be hobbyist grade and about as fast as a laser printer from 20 years ago. Supplies for hobby machines (ink and powder) are gonna eat your profits as a light snack and ask for more, but if you don't care about getting your money back (or the quality of the final product), a desktop setup will print enough to satisfy a demand of a dozen or so prints in a weekend (depending on size). If you're shooting for a larger volume and want to keep the footprint small, you'll probably want to budget at least $3k for a printer, and it should pay for itself in a couple years.

@Sui @Decayable @Formerly_Trucks @KiKi I've mostly arrived at the mindset of "If you build it, they will come" when it comes to jumping into a commercial project, but the market research does seem to be the hardest part of figuring out the feasibility of most business ventures I've been interested in. I only started researching garment printing because I was mostly interested in finding industries that have been outsourced over time. From what I gather, scaling up production was what pushed industries overseas, so I figure they could be brought back into domestic production as one man super-autism hobbyist projects. Screen printing was something that I looked into initially, but material cost for keeping stock on shelves was too high for a process that wasn't very exciting to me, especially in an industry as saturated as fast fashion. Of the industries I've actually got an interest in, the only two that have stuck with me that could possibly pay for themselves in the long run are custom textiles and old school platen press processes. I've figured out all my budgetary constraints so far, but the biggest hurdle I'm having right now is figuring out the appropriate space to put it all.
