I think there is a valuable distinction between LLM-sourced code and LLM tool calls. Both are potentially problematic but have different threat vectors.
LLM-sourced code is a non-deterministic system writing deterministic code. We can still code review it.
LLM tool calls is a non-deterministic system taking non-deterministic actions via deterministic tools. This can’t be code reviewed and must be sandboxed.
@mcc@cwebber The original post was all about an LLM taking non-deterministic shell level actions at runtime. And you conflated that with deterministic code written by an LLM.
I believe you have missed the point that DHH is making. Both DHH and the US First Amendment are operating on a fundamentally different definition of free speech than what you are describing and what much of Europe subscribes to. As Obama said "Laudable efforts to restrict speech can become a tool to silence critics or oppress minorities. The strongest weapon against hateful speech is not repression, it is more speech."
DHH (known for Basecamp etc.) is on a multi-post rant about EU politics.
As an American, I don't have skin in the game and I don't have deep knowledge on this subject, but I'm fortunate to have this space filled with people, including Europeans, who know more about this than me.
I can't help but ask: Where is he flawed in his thinking? And where does he have valid points?
@obrhoff That's intense. Hawaii is insane when it comes to fireworks. It looks like an actual war zone. It takes forever to drive through suburbs on New Year's Eve because every road is blocked by fireworks. But at least they don't block busy city blocks and we certainly don't have bombs going off.
